In 2009, the Chimei Museum collaborated with the National Palace Museum to present the exhibition Masterpieces of Violins, taking audiences on a journey through the 400-year history of the violin.

In addition to the violin displays, the Beckers, a family of violin makers, were invited by the Chimei Museum to design a special violin-making workshop scene. Jennifer Becker, the third-generation heir of the Becker family, was invited to Taiwan to demonstrate the violin-making process on-site. She provided detailed explanations of the materials and structure of violins, allowing the audience to experience the intimate relationship between the violin maker and the instrument. This not only offered a deeper understanding of the art and craftsmanship of violin making but also added significant educational value to the entire exhibition.

This exhibition features a selection of forty renowned violins, including masterpieces from the three most prominent Italian violin-making families. Among them, 13 violins were acquired by the Chimei Foundation through the efforts of Taiwan's Becker & Sons Violins. The highlight of the collection is the world's only Magini Quartet, which includes a violin and a cello provided by Becker & Sons, enabling Chimei to assemble this rare and extraordinary set.

One of the most talked-about pieces is a cello known as "Chimay," completed in 1610. It was once part of the royal collection of the "Prince of Chimay." Over the following centuries, the cello changed hands multiple times, as if guided by destiny, ultimately crossing the oceans to arrive in Taiwan. In 2006, it became a treasured addition to the Chimei Museum's collection. Today, only six Magini cellos are known to exist worldwide, making "Chimay" an exceptionally rare gem. Becker & Sons Violins took on the mission of ensuring that the long-journeying "Prince of Chimay" finally found its resting place at the Chimei Museum.
